This happens and it is not always ‘mind boggling’ or even global catastrophically and yes this implies it is not about that guy who will lose the midterms in a most auspicious day. One source makes claim that President Trump is Jesus, or so the impression goes. It was placed on hist own truth social (why would anyone read that channel) So whilst that happens. Tries of people called it “as blasphemous or self-aggrandizing”, he says he was a doctor. But it lost him approximately 20% of the christian voters. So there is some form of justice there I suppose. No, it is nothing like that. The time the source is Tom’s hardware who gives us ‘Sony’s final 4K Blu-ray player listed as out of stock in Japan, firm may be preparing to abandon standalone players — retailers reportedly told not to expect new stock of its remaining model’, the article can be read (at https://www.tomshardware.com/video-games/playstation/sonys-final-4k-blu-ray-player-listed-as-out-of-stock-in-japan-firm-may-be-preparing-to-abandon-standalone-players-retailers-reportedly-told-not-to-expect-new-stock-of-its-remaining-model) and I am left with a disturbing sight. First the PS6 comes without a drive, then we hear that Sony is disbanding its physical format and that is happening in a few places. Last year Sony Pictures Entertainment had a revenue of US$9.92 billion. You do not walk away from that. That is in its current form. Considering what a Blue-Ray of 4K disc can hold. Is it possible that Sony is going the way of the Nintendo cartridge? The last part of the article gives us “But it’s important to note that 4K Blu-ray demand has not collapsed in the same way as the wider physical disc market. Figures laid out by the Digital Entertainment Group show that overall U.S. disc sales declined by roughly 9% in 2025. Spending on 4K discs, however, climbed by 12% over the same period, before climbing another 18% in the second quarter of 2026. That said, for existing Sony owners, there is no reason to panic just yet. A player that works today will continue playing the discs already in a collector’s library — and there is no evidence that Sony plans to push an update that would stop existing players from reading movies.”
Now consider that A 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc can hold 50 GB, 66 GB, or 100 GB (depending on the layers) and discs can be damage by careless handling them. Now consider that you could surpass that with 2 cartridges (they hold 64GB each) and consider that any movie could have a single spot or a dual spot. And you cave tonnes of space in your living room and cartridge are a lot harder to damage and usually it is only done through intentional action. Or perhaps Sony is creating its own cartridge holding 128GB. The would make sense, it would drive all kinds of Sony Hardware and there is a time (like now) when ‘mums’ the word and that might have been the intent of Sony all Along. Then there is that setting of optionally buying all the great games again in a much better package (smaller too). That would make perfect sense and a little unsettling. We all went with the DISC version of gaming since the Original Playstation (Tekken, Tomb Raider, the good old days) and perhaps Sony has a new format coming up for their PS6 (and we might not hear this until release time) I reckon that these cartridges would enable Sony to add features to movies in the ways of sounds and overlapping commentary at the push of a button and the neat thing is that it gives a reason for every household to consider the PS6 as the central device (so, goodbye Microsoft) and lets face it when you name your new console after a deadly disease, you have it coming. Microsoft might make the claim that “Microsoft’s upcoming hybrid hardware initiative designed to merge Xbox console gaming with open PC ecosystems”, but we know better. We saw the bodies pile up in Antarctica.

Still the idea that Sony is going for a new format is not far fetched, especially as they see the impact these cartridges had on the Nintendo and with a Sony designed cartridge, the amount of copy kittens of these original games might see the their time is up too. I also think that this would liven up the second hand sales (but Sony might not care about those). I still think it was a bad idea to drop the physical media, however. In light of this setting, it might make sense in a few ways and consider all the Japanese cars having a cartridge slot to let kids in the back watch their favourite series and for one, such a cartridge could hold a whole season of ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’ or something according to those lines. Although Japanese parents might want the view of their young ones limited to ‘My Neighbor Totoro’, to each their own I say and the more I think of it, the more I see this as a likely development in the Sony region. Dropping physical media never made sense to me. There are too many rural gamers in the world and setting this up for clouds will bring pressures to the entire cloud (even the small cumulus clouds) But about that another day.
So they might be troubling thought, but not necessarily negative ones (perhaps a nightmare to Microsoft). Time will tell because we have not seen any official ‘release’ news on the PS6 and with the news that Tom’s Hardware gives us as a most reliable source, the setting is taking a different turn, like seeing a new highway open up whilst the construction was kept secret.
So, you all have a great day.
