daemonis more

Yes, from one we go to the other and it is time to look towards the setting of protection. Armour if you want. You see the games all have their take on it, and so do I. We have cloth, leather and…..

Yes, you are roaring to name dozens of armour, all from other games, Blizzard and Bethesda did their work, yet I believe we need to go back to the basics. You can have 60-200 forms of armour, but what does it serve? The basics are what some call undergarments, the armour and the cloak. Yet be not deceived, the undergarments can be fur, cloth, thin leather or chainmail. Each their protection, each their weakness. Try walking through the winter scape of Scandinavia or Canada and try doing that wearing chainmail UNDER your vest, you soon will learn that col travels and Chainmail holds onto the freezing cold like nothing you have ever experienced. Yet chainmail has properties that we need. So we could go chainmail coated fur. You see, each benefit will have a drawback and it becomes a much larger puzzle when you imbue the armour with magical properties. I do not believe that there are only upsides. Like magnets, what pulls on one side, pushes on another. Any natural product is like a small balance, upside and downside go hand in hand, but overall the larger benefit is found. The cloak might have stealth magic, yet the iron armour imbued with strength or poison magic will negatively impact stealth. It is not completely set in stone yet, but I believe that a lot more can be done on balance instead of merely adding percentages here or there.

And as armour is stronger, it tends to be less stealthy, still stealth will have a side that benefits all, it will have options making it worth having and so begins a new water table of balance.

As I personally see it, we get a lot more puzzles and joy by having the three elements of armour in the personal screen and work our way from there. Three elements in stead of a combination of 8. Three elements and each having its options instead of X*Y*Z armour settings you have to program ahead of release. There is of course more to be done, but I just handed three separate sides (including the previous two articles) to get you going and become a new and competing Blizzard. Let’s not forget that there are several systems where Microsoft is not welcome, so you have options in the long run and this was handed to you without charge so you can design your version of a slicer and dicer on Sony and Amazon systems at no charge. When was the last time you had an offer like that? You still have to do your dues and your perseverance in making the game, but you have a head start now. I will try to add a few more sides to this all giving you more to work with and let us remember that we want a better set of options for gamers in total. You see Microsoft is about removing choice, they have the largest companies and you get to play those games as long as it is on a Microsoft system. An inferior system that betrayed its gamers (as I personally see it) more than once. Do  you really want to be part of that, or do you want to be the new wave of game designers in a setting where the gamer gets to choose and they choose you? Now they will choose Microsoft because there is no other system that has it, how is that freedom for gamers?

And freedom is where it is at, so I design the IP for you all so you can oppose a Microsoft dictatorship for gamers. It is merely my way of fighting that technology usurper. At least that is how I personally see it.

So feel free to agree or disagree, yet those who disagree when choices fall away, you better realise that you were part of that limitation of choice.

In the beginning

It is not a new line, it has been used so many times, but it is a decent start to any story. As I was contemplating yesterday’s story and yesterday’s actions, my mind wandered al over the field. You see creating a hero is easy, you look in the mirror and you have a (delusional) hero. You see, it is the antagonists that shape the story. Would Hercules be anyone if his deed was stopping bullies in a bar? Would the bowie knife existed if it was tasted on vagrants? Nope, we need antagonists!

So I wanted to create something new, yet there are only so many antagonists you can create, gaming has existed for decades, people have used nearly all the antagonists that myth, folklore and history allows for. So we need a new setting of a story. And then it hit me, what if (a setting I personally believe in) the enemy is all around us, we start in a place with one enemy, but from there, then what? That is the only weakness that Diablo has, the story is set to some degree and then we see that our powers are created because we know what comes. So what happens when we take that away?

So consider the pentagram above (a coincidence, honestly), We see the 5 points (A-E) when you start a new game, Demon class A is the first one you meet, you will gain powers from killing that demon, but there is no way telling what class it is, it might be vampire, it might be a ghoul, Incubi, Ifrit, there are too many to name, but that makes the setting fun. As you kill more of that kind your power in point A rises, so at some point you will encounter a new demon. Killing the first one is a challenge, but like Demon A you gain the ability to kill it easier. Now the hard part, the small points are not assigned, If demon A is coded blue, and the second demon is Red, then whoever you meet is assigned purple will be easier to kill, but you will have a max of 50% advantage (can’t make it too easy) and every game the wheel changes, every game will be a new challenge, you can (to some degree) consider the main points, but the minor points cannot be determined until you face them. A setting that (as far as I know) Blizzard never considered and now I have come up with a new challenge. And every game will have up to 8 main types, so against 3 of them you will have to fight for your life. to a smaller degree with minor classes too. And with up to 25 main classes and 30 minor classes, there will be new and unique playthroughs for some tyme to come (spicy enough for you).

This is merely the antagonists. There is more, towns will need to be created and they all have a smith (weapons) an attacked armour maker, and inn (food and drink). And as we see these elements evolve we get a better handle on who and what to kill. A setting that has been done before but not to this degree. So Microsoft spend billions on goods, and I countered the first move (free for Sony and Amazon developers). So consider how angry gamers will become and create your own fortune, let’s show Microsoft not to mess with gamers through their sanctimonious BS. So there is a lot more to do, but consider that we have a larger population dedicated to keep the quality of gaming high.

Enjoy the weekend!

Hunger is the new sustenance

It is a stage where we see that the Yemeni population will casually accepts hunger as the way to get from meal to meal. If that upsets you, fine. So when the Australian Human Rights Commission gives the people ‘New research finds ageism is the most accepted form of prejudice in Australia’, I wonder what they are going on about. Especially when they give us

Young adults (18-39) are most likely to experience ageism as being condescended to or ignored, particularly at work. Middle-aged people (40-61) are most likely to experience ageism as being turned down for a job. Older people (62+) are more likely to experience ageism as being ‘helped’ without being asked.

So how about ageism where people over 55 with university degrees and decades of experience are no longer considered for jobs, not on pretty much any level, I see nothing on this, but these Human Rights groups are seemingly talking about ageism. So who is this Dr Kay Patterson AO? How much data from Centrelink and job saturation by age did this person look at? Google settled a case of Age discrimination in August and we see nothing on ageism and the lack of getting jobs, do we? I merely wonder who this Dr Patterson is catering to?

I see that there are two settings. In the first we see “The report found ageism remains the most accepted form of prejudice in Australia, with 63% having experienced ageism in the last five years.” From another point of view we are not given “Multiple sources have for the most not acted AGAINST corporations and organisations that continue a stage of ageism, a stage that is optionally covered up with the assistance of the HR department” In this consider how much Agism there is (the report mentions 90%), yet how many HR organisations have made a written summary to their board of directors? It is nice that a player like Google is given a legal notice, yet how many at large firms have been given fines? So when we consider the quote ‘there are 2,402,254 actively trading businesses in the Australian economy’, if that is true than there should be up to 2,162,000 businesses active with ageism and I am pretty sure that the media has not given us anything to that degree (or to any degree for that matter).

We can cry foul, we can get angry but there is a larger stage that is surrounding it and it will not go away, So it is time for the next iteration of what I promised. Especially as there is no nuclear deal coming, as people are waiting in the lines to wonder what will happen next. I will set online (encrypted in 4Chan) as well as here, a method, a conceptual method on melting down the Iranian reactor, no bombs required, but that will come soon. In the meantime, here is another snow globe. This is not for fun, the snow globe gave me the idea that no matter what protections you add, there is a way to get to the reactor and why add explosives when the reactor itself is a massively large boom boom box? It is nice, because young people might never have thought of this solution. Will it work? I do not know, but it is time to make clear that the threats by Iran against the state of Israel and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are no longer tolerated and Iran has made enough enemies. So someone will tinker with my idea and use it, or adjust and use it. Either way is fine with me. Like the other IP, when the counters hit a certain number, I will publish the papers here.

It is not theatrical, but I do believe that an advantage is only an advantage if others are nipping at the heels of that very same IP. So whilst you consider that hunger is the new sustenance, consider the active acts of all of us against Houthi and Iranian forces for their actions in Yemen. On the other hand, if my idea works too well, Yemen will be all that Iran has left, balance in the universal equation. Such is life. It is nice to see such a reverence of “Older people (62+) are more likely to experience ageism as being ‘helped’ without being asked”, especially when thousands go hungry in Yemen, I get it there are plenty of issues, but this issue seems to be extremely active to avoid age discrimination on getting jobs, which would have been my first thought, but I reckon that 90% of 2,402,254 businesses (in Australia) is just too big a risk to consider. So let’s give them a new risk setting, and that is where my reactor idea is just in time to be introduced as a new solution quite soon. The other IP took 4-6 days, so I wonder how long it will take now.

Reversal

It started in a few ways, one of them was a game called Idle Necromancer. Even with the few glitches (one actual whopper of a bug), the game was fun for two days. Then the issues hit, the same over and over, grinding towards nowhere. You see, in RPG we accept grinding. Grinding can be a simple way to get the equipment you are looking for and we all have our locations. For me it was the Rockmilk Cave in Oblivion. Two groups fighting each other, decent loot and its segmentation made it easy to clean house. In Skyrim it was the Halted Stream Camp, a few opponents, good loot, iron ore and tusks. All a person in dire need of funds and resources needs. We all look for the easy grind and over time we need bigger places to get the experience points. Grinding has its pay-off, and when there is no payoff? It stops pretty quick and in this Idle Necromancer has a lot of changes it needs to do (and fix a massive bug), but the irritating part is that the game looks good, has optionally a challenge and almost no advertisements, so I do hope they fix it because this is one of those games that could have a very long life. I would think that they would add a few sides to the game, scenery (101 levels of identical scenery will not work), you need to level all the creatures, so in stead of clicking on each type 1000 times (my monsters were level 1000 on day 2), having a level selection button (1/10/50) would not be a bad idea. The music was really nice, yet there too alterations might make it more enticing, the music was nice, but the idea (to take a page from Fur Fighters), setting the melody in the song to whatever creature is dominant (it makes sense when you played the game) is not a bad idea, optionally, certain instruments are added as you unlock more creatures. It sounds like a lot, but it is not, the larger problem is that you are grinding to nowhere, that is the actual issue. Wave after wave, redoing it and licking to add levels to your creatures. They could take a page from Diablo and let the stage start that at times loot boxes drop with equipment for the necromancer. Have the scenery in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, optionally altering the music slightly. Moreover, the dead do not care about the weather, but it could be used to set a hindrance to a creature. In winter the FrankenZombie might become slower, in Summer Ghosts and Wraiths lose power faster and so on. All small changes that change the game by a lot. Optionally every 10 waves a boss group, or a village that has a lot more opponents (with the optional treasure). All options someone might notice on day one. Yet the game remains enticing. This was all good and nice, but it is not about a free game, it set the old noggin in motion and as I was contemplating that the thought of ‘Life imitating art’ came to me and from there the ‘Why does art not imitate life?’ thought came. There is an old statistical saying. If there is significance in Factorial results, there cannot be any discriminant results.

Say what now?
In factor we go from an interval to a result group, in Discriminant we go from a group to an interval. Yet the link does not work BOTH ways. If a factor succeeds, a discriminant test will fail and vice versa. Oversimplified it means that  incomes could determine what gender receives it, but a gender cannot be the foundation to the income. It is oversimplified, but I need to in this case.

What?
Yes, I see that you are confused and it will get worse soon enough. You see, I saw the news pass by on Dave Chapelle and Netflix. Now, I do not particularly care about Dave Chapelle. I have not seen his shows and let’s face it there only one true comedian (Jimmy Carr, I had to go there). Comedy is set to the watcher, we like it, we tolerate it or we loath it. It is often in several settings, it is how we are wired. So when I saw headlines like ‘Netflix workers walk out over Dave Chappelle special The Closer’ and I wondered what was going on. So I read some of the stuff (I did not watch the show) and I took notice of Mike Bary who gives us “Yes, there is freedom of speech, but you don’t have to be mean when you make jokes. I think Dave Chappelle, a funny person, needs to understand a little more about the jokes he’s making and how they can affect people” In this there are two sides. For one, comedy comes in all forms and sizes, offensive, the other kind and several flavours in between. When it comes to gays, lesbians and trans people everyone has their own station, some accept it, some love it, some do not care (that would be me) and some hate it. Now in this case there is a chance that Dave Chappelle is catering to the not so positive group and is that a problem? The easy way is to switch the channel if you do not like it. There are comedians that do not come to my screen, some aren’t even funny, some are but I do not get their humour, we all have that. The problem with the left slighted people is that they attack whatever does not play their tune. Why is that? The article (and a few others) already gave us “Mr Sarandos said Chappelle’s language did not cross the line into inciting violence” and why would he? It is similar with abortions, the pro-life group is at the very end of one stick and the other team take on the other extreme. I believe that there is a need for abortion, I think it happens too often and some see it as a cure (which it is not) and the pro-lifers are all about zero abortions. They are allowed to have that view, but they seem to be actively aggressive to whomever does not follow THEIR point of view. The attacks on abortion clinics is clear evidence. These elements now go into a bucket to be stirred because there is a larger stage to come. You see, it now sets the stage that I created with the earlier mentioned settings. You see, we forget that all the Political Correctness BS is a stage that pushes insincerity and outright lies into the open. We need to take a page from gaming. There are stages that are different, we are not all the same (and we never ill be) and sometimes life is too much like a game, we grind our hours and we go nowhere. Now consider the Idle Necromancer issues and the stage of discriminant analyses. We need a new key in gaming. One that might be as simple as the stage where actions of the player, as well as the character played might give a stage that the game alters whether a man or a woman plays the game. We are not the same and we forgot to coin that prospect into revenue. We see terms like ‘Women friendly games’ but are they? Is a makeover game girl friendly?

What if an RPG becomes intelligent enough to capture the players actions and can then determine the gender (beyond the play style) of the player and alter the game play accordingly? And it is not merely gender, it is also the stage of a junior versus a senior gamer, a defensive versus an offensive player. All elements that can unfold to shape a game, not shape the gamer according to the story of the character. And as it was with Chappelle some will not like it, some will complain and cry like a chihuahua. But there will be a group that will enjoy that game evolution. As I stated, the problem with Ubisoft is that they were about pleasing everyone. If you do that you end up not satisfying anyone. The games we play are the ones we are attracted to, the ones that challenge us and I believe that the best challenges are given by games that are open enough to evolve the game and the story according to the playing party. This is not a new thought, but only now are consoles strong enough to cater to that setting and with Streaming systems evolving that stage will become important, a lot more important than anyone can understand at present. We are being bullied into some flaky form of Political correctness that is neither political or correct, gaming is an outlet, so let’s use that form to challenge the people to a whole new form of gaming. One that alters (read: adjusts) as the player plays. At present it has never been done before so there will be a first.

What I saw

Yup it happens, in this case it happened all between my own to ears, but the science behind it is sound (or in this case vision). In my dream I saw what resembled the old Kodak 110 series, but all new, not a grasp from the past, but all new and all digital. The camera was $265, and in that version there was something on top, a white plate the size of a credit card, it was the Digital viewfinder, a viewfinder that turned as the person switched from landscape to portrait without turning the camera, it did so automatic as the camera recognised the image was containing one person, but it could be set to manual. The science was sound, it is a consequence that we saw 10 years ago as mobile phones became more generic making the software part the distinguisher. Camera’s (the non high end ones) will go generic and modular. It only makes sense, the shape and the distinguishing form of a camera is a foregone bye bye in the world of digital abilities, it is like expecting a deep space vehicle to show aerodynamical options, in a place devoid of oxygen. And as we start realising that in generic use shape no functional is expensive, a market driven margin need, will take the functional over the looks of a camera. As I stated there will always be a market for the high end Nikon, Cannon and Hasselblad systems, they are for photographers, yet the larger consumer groups need a different approach, just like they will when we realise the draw back of a market facing Neom City, marketing in a city 20 times the size of New York needs a different stage of marketing and a different stage of approaching consumers and as that stage changes, the rest will catch up. Now my mind is concocting a view on the altering camera market and it makes sense that Kodak would want a piece of that. A modular camera that has the setting of a camera, but as the people adjust, so does the camera and the camera has taken a log of hits since the Android and iPhone hit the market. They are now at 12MP, which fits the massive need of the people, but the camera is still there to fill a need, a camera roughly 4 times the size of an iPhone fits 400% more electronics and with that a lot more software, so the flash, battery and finders can be more intelligent, more light capturing and could fit the GoPro need of 4K, and when that happens the people will adjust to the modular setting of the camera.

A setting that makes sense, a setting that seemingly has the potential of a new wave, but this time there is one setback for the Americans. The Eastman Kodak Company is no longer alone, now it has to compete with both Japan and Korea, optionally China will have its version as well, they are all on par, and it is the innovative player that takes the biggest slice of that cake, it has always been that way, yet now America is no longer in pole position. It is competing with South Korea to the largest extent and that shifts the spectrum of anticipation. Once we looked towards America for innovation, that time has gone and now everyone is shifting its view to what South Korea and optionally China is bringing to the table. A stage that I set not merely on what technology is more advanced, but on a stage of what technology is most adaptable, especially in this economy, where for the next 10 years people can only spend a dollar once, so the dollar that can be used in three directions is the one they choose, in this world ‘Buy American’ cannot hold water, not when spending is too limited. And it is not an American setting, most nations want the approach of ‘Support your local hooker’, but the people, the consumers, that largest group has no money to spend, no cash left for the next decade as such the adaptable maker of goods gets to win. And it is in that environment that players like Amazon will clean house. Can you truly expect that a local bookshop handing us a book at $75, which would be a very acceptable price, will win out against Amazon offering the same title at $17.95? In that world where people need groceries and have bills, Amazon takes that cake, and it does so way too often, this is not the fault of the Bookshop, it is the flaw of local governments that saw what was coming, but they decided to sit on their hands and this part matters, as Amazon changed the way we approach of what we buy and where we buy it, the next stage, camera’s will have an opportunity to approach consumers they never had access to before, the online shoppers for long term goods. And in all this the camera, the price-tag and the stage of modularism takes a new flight, so what will come next?

I cannot pretend to have the answer, merely a joke. New Zealand has now launched a competitor to the Tesla electric car, it is $9,500; $7,000 for the car and $2,500 for the extension cord. Yes, it is a little funny, but the stage of modularism is still in there and it is no laughing matter. I saw this field grow in 2010 at UTS, the patents were pointing in that direction, even as they never mentioned it, you do not set up patents to that degree without a long term scope and in that scope modulated parts make sense and I reckon that soon the camera will face that evolution as well, perhaps it already is.

Behold the truth on a console

It was a setting my mind went into when I was looking at the PS5 presentation at 06:00. It suddenly hit me, a new IP, one that has never been done before. So what if the game is not a game, what it is a story about the truth. A setting where we get to be different people, unlocking christian history. The early days, the treaty of Claremont, the Malleus Malificarus, the Ghibellines papers, the list is near endless and for the most, Christians are unaware on a lot of this. Let’s face it, when was the last time you got the truth served as a game (well, sort of a game anyway). Walking through the Vatican, unlocking art, unlocking the history of artists. A setting of papers, paintings and sculptures. In all this, did the Vatican Apostolic Archives ever considered that their in-house digitisation project would be a stage of informing the people? Even as they attempted to both make the documents more available to researchers, so why only researchers?  Why not inform us all? And in this way preserving ageing physical documents will be preserved all over the world. In this way we can serve up the history of religion in many ways, on many grounds and in a playful way. I remember (when I was young) getting late to a sermon. I asked the man sitting next to me ‘How long has he been speaking’, the answer was ‘about half an hour’, when I asked him what it was about, I got ‘He hasn’t told us yet’.

You might laugh, but if we look at this neutrally, when was the last time we got the real goods on what happened? Who has ever liked at the treaty of Claremont? When we see “Pope Urban’s speech on November 27 included the call to arms that would result in the First Crusade, and eventually the capture of Jerusalem and the establishment of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. In this, Urban reacted to the request by Byzantine emperor Alexius I Comnenus who had sent envoys to the Council of Piacenza requesting military assistance against the Seljuk Turks”, I wonder how many people had any clue on what the crusades were about. It was about greed, not religion (well less about religion). The movie Kingdom of Heaven (by Ridley Scott) touches on it, but for those with a larger interest in RPG and not killing things (optionally not killing things) we could have an option. There is of course the option, that you unlock a character that can actually go into Jerusalem, it is an idea. I just got the idea less than an hour ago, so it is still evolving in my mind, even whilst I am writing this. If the Vatican wants to reach the youth of today, the 5 consoles embrace close to 638,000,000 people, as such, is it such a bad idea?

And it is not merely about the documents and the Vatican, if you are not French, there is a decent hand the you are not aware of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims, so why not? There are a whole range of churches and cathedral who have had a larger push in nations and I think the it is time to give the people the low down on these places.

Is it a crazy idea? Yup, I will be the first one to admit that, is it a bad idea? There are 1.2 billion Catholics in the world, there are 638 million console gamers, there is a really good chance that these groups overlap. Skyrim is one of the most successful games ever made and it only has 20 million copies, when you see the other two numbers, does it make sense to take that walk? I believe it does and there is every chance that this game could make it on all of the 5 consoles, optionally PC and MAC too.

So will we behold the truth or merely bash the ‘x’ button on Devil may Cry 5? Well the is up to you to decide, but consider Minecraft, everyone laughed initially, yet now there are well over 100 million people playing that game (most on PC), so whilst this idea is bouncing in my head, I will consider ordering my PS5 and I await a shop calling me back with the explanation what I have been waiting for my iPad since May, and it better come with more than a ‘there is a new model arriving in 2 weeks’.

Hasta Lasagna and Auf Wiener Schnitzel!

The Pakistani seesaw

I took an interest 2 days ago when the news of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia came across the screen. Yet that is not the part that got to me, it felt like an element, not the main beef and I was proven right with ‘Pakistan’s balancing act may be failing’ (at https://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/pakistan-balancing-act-failing-200828164701825.html), which gives us in the by-line “Pakistan’s strategy to keep good relations with everyone is no longer working in an increasingly polarised Muslim world”, that makes sense, polarisation is found almost everywhere. Pakistan is in an almost impossible situation, I want to blame Pakistan for their own situation and I would likely be right, but there is no real evidence of it, merely a long line of political choices that Pakistan went with and that makes sense from a Pakistani point of view. Yet we are also given “Qureshi said Islamabad expects the Jeddah-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene a meeting on Kashmir. Otherwise, he said, Pakistan would be “compelled” to “call a meeting of the Islamic countries that are ready to stand with us on the issue of Kashmir”. Qureshi’s comments have widely been viewed as a veiled threat to create a new bloc that would rival the Saudi-dominated OIC”, Saudi Arabia responded and it was not good for Pakistan, but they did this to themselves. From my (limited) point of view, we need to acknowledge that Kashmir is a much larger issue and it makes sense for Saudi Arabia and other Muslim nations to not rush to conclusions ahead of time, because it either leads to the alienation of Pakistan or India and I reckon that the Islamic countries do not want to alienate an optional consumer base of 1.3 billion people. This does not mean that the Islamic nations are against the Pakistani stance in the Kashmir region, but that situation is a lot larger than we imagine, no matter how we turn it, it is either an Indian choice or a Pakistani choice, yet I wonder what the Kashmiri choice is, the media tends to report little on that (or so it seems to me).

So when we get to “Soon after General Bajwa landed in Pakistan, Qureshi left for China, sending a clear message to the kingdom that Islamabad is diversifying its alliances and re-evaluating the value of its strategic partnership with Riyadh”, we see that Pakistani wants options, it felt threatened by the pressure on Saudi Arabia that backfired, and in this China was not a solution, merely a trade opportunity as long as China allowed for it, because China has too much to gain from deals with India, they too see 1.3 billion consumers and China wants them, 221 million Pakistani does not add up, especially as the poverty line in Pakistan is 25%, India is at 22%, but with a population base that is almost 6 times larger, China sees a larger interest in India, which doesn’t help Pakistan much.

There is more, the article also gives us “Today, Saudi Arabia has several reasons to value its deepening partnership with India more than its historic ties to Pakistan. While the annual trade between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia stands at around $3.6bn, Saudi-India bilateral trade is worth more than $30bn. This trade differential partially explains, despite persistent Pakistani requests, why Riyadh has avoided raising the Kashmir issue beyond mere tokenism. Unlike Pakistan, Saudis do not take a zero-sum view of their growing economic cooperation with India. In fact, economic overtures towards India are part of MBS’s post-oil economic diversification efforts”, it is like I stated, India is increasingly important, the diversification efforts are increasing in Riyadh and that is seen all over the globe and China is part of that, all whilst India is already a larger part of it. You do not toss overboard 900% of trade so settle one issue, an issue that is increasingly difficult to set, one might argue that both Saudi Arabia and China might prosper even more if Kashmir became an independent nation.

Whatever happens next, Pakistan has a much larger issue in play, if we are to believe Al Jazeera with “Pakistan’s criticism of Saudi-led Muslim bloc OIC for its inaction on the Kashmir issue has threatened their ties” (at https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/08/pakistan-saudi-rift-happened-200827175219872.html), where we see “Pakistan accused the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), a bloc of 57 Muslim-majority countries that is led by Saudi Arabia, of inaction over the Kashmir issue – a key policy issue for Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan”, there is of course the idea to get all 57 views on Kashmir, but that is merely me considering the larger field.

So in all this, the larger Seesaw is not Pakistan on one side and Kashmir on the other side, it is a stage where we see the needs of Pakistan one one side and the other side we see the needs of either Saudi Arabia or China, with Kashmir at the centre setting the stage of balance, optionally their inaction. Pakistan is not in a good place and it will get worse, as they alienate more Islamic nations, we will become witness of some sort of isolation of Pakistan, that might not be the best diagnosis, but it is the best I can do for now. No matter how I phrase it, it seems to me that the setting in the Middle East will partially be represented by the views of the OIC and their views towards Kashmir might be more important than we realise.

I have had my share of obnoxious behaviour, I have on times (when I was young) been a little too not understanding, but I have never see what the Independent (at https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/china-muslims-xinjiang-pork-alcohol-lunar-new-year-spring-festival-uighur-islam-a8767561.html) is giving us. The headline ‘China ‘forcing Muslims to eat pork and drink alcohol’ for lunar new year festival’ is alarming enough, but the text “Officials have delivered pork directly to Muslim households and insisted that traditional Chinese new year decorations are displayed outside, RFA’s report claimed” if proven is a dangerous one. The additional quote “Chinese authorities have reportedly forced Muslims in the Xinjiang region to eat pork and drink alcohol during the country’s lunar new year holiday amid an alleged crackdown on Islam” merely makes matters worse. The idea that the disrespect given to any religion has taken this form is just beyond acceptable, in what universe does the Chinese government think it has any allowed leverage? I use the setting ‘if proven’, merely because there was one source in 2019 and now we see two more sources two days ago, in this, why has the larger western media, Al Jazeera, Gulf News and a few others all forsaken this? As such ‘if proven’ is the right setting. I understand that there are places where we are not Muslim, not Jewish, or not Christian, but most of us have always allowed others to be what they are. The bible tells us ‘Judge not, that you be not judged’, the Quran states “It is they who follow the guidance from their Lord, and it is they alone who are successful in attaining their object in this life and the hereafter”, and I am certain that the Torah has its own version that is not dissimilar to the others, so why would anyone force feed pork to a Muslim? It is not secular, it is merely a form of unacceptable cruelty. Yet it does not stop there. Forbes reports (at https://www.forbes.com/sites/lisettevoytko/2020/08/19/muslim-ice-detainees-reportedly-fed-pork-told-by-chaplain-it-is-what-it-is/#47cf78a26cc5) “Civil rights lawyers sent a letter to a Miami, Florida, detention facility run by Immigration and Customs Enforcement claiming that its Muslim detainees are being fed pork, a food prohibited by Islam, and have been given post-expiration-date meals that meet their dietary restrictions, but reportedly made them ill—and the facility’s chaplain allegedly dismissed their concerns, saying, “It is what it is.””, it is my personal view that any chaplain or priest hiding behind ‘it is what it is’ should be excommunicated on mere principle alone. We need to reflect on the rarity of this report and even as I hold Forbes in much higher view than most other media, one media does not make it true. That too is a foundation we can align towards.

When we consider an added part “This isn’t the first time ICE has been accused of giving Muslims pork in their meals; in 2019, a Pakistani-born man with a valid U.S. work permit was reportedly given nothing but pork sandwiches for six straight days” we should consider that there is a lot wrong at ICE. And there is no excuse, as far as I can tell there would be nothing wrong with Cheese or Corned beef, so what game is being played here and in this, are we even surprised that the Middle East has such hatred for christians?

My concern is not merely that it happened, but the lack of reporting in the widespread media in this, unless it can be proven to be false, is a much larger evil in this. This is the first I hear of it and the 2019 case was completely unknown to me. So why is the larger media avoiding this?

I can speculate until the building is done, but in the end, it will be speculation and for you the larger question will be ‘What else are they keeping from me?’ Because if the media is willing to make a deal to not report on certain matters, they will do so for a price and when you are the price, they will do the same thing. That is what you must fear, and this is not the first time this is happening, it has happened before and now it is happening again and it will happen again tomorrow, unless we hold the media accountable for their actions and their inactions.

It is the only way to stop these unacceptable acts from re-occurring.

Feel free to disagree

I stumbled upon an article bashing Ubisoft this morning, it was an article that got published by CCN on January 18th (at https://www.ccn.com/ubisoft-finally-realises-how-bad-most-of-their-games-are/), yet as I was reading it, there was also this nagging feeling that I did not agree and I felt, especially after all the bashing (which was fun mind you) to partially disagree with this article.

Even as today is all about ‘Ubisoft has acquired a majority stake in Kolibri Games‘, the people behind all the idle click games, we need to see that there are two sides in all this and even as bashing Ubisoft is high entertainment, it should be done for the right reasons.

It starts with the headline ‘Ubisoft Finally Realises How Bad (Most Of) Their Games Are‘, they aren’t that bad, even some of the franchises that are hit with all kinds of issues, I see that their basic problem is the lack of proper testing, in addition to that, I fear that marketing within Ubisoft is too powerful forcing release of software before it is ready (like the day one patches that are 7GB or larger), it is at times a time management issue and as we see that CD Projekt Red is stating that Cyberpunk 2077 is delayed, the gamers do not mind (they are a little upset) that is because they know that the final product of CD Projekt Red delivers, they always have.

Then we get

  • Ubisoft’s most recent games have suffered from some pretty bad reception.
  • Their editorial team is getting a much-needed shakeup to help fix the lack of variety in their line-up.

The first is very true, bugs glitches and a total iterative way of playing has that effect on people (Ubisoft buying Kolibri) implies that iterative gameplay will continue for some time. Then we get the second part ‘the lack of variety‘, I cannot agree to that, we can see that there is a repetition within a franchise, yet For Honor, Assassins Creed, Far Cry, Watchdogs and the Division are different. If it is about lack of variety because the Division, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six are shooting games, then we need to see that this is what buying consumers wants.

When we look at Assassin’s Creed and that in the past there was too much ‘Prince of Persia’ chase sequences than I would to some degree agree and other games have this crossover to some degree. Yet I feel that ‘lack of variety‘ is a bit of a stretch.

This is easiest seen in Far Cry, when Primal came, it was a larger surprise, and yes we know that it was based to some degree on the Far Cry 4 map, but I did not have an issue with that part (and the game is different enough to not notice it to the degree that some claim. The game (as many others) is largely repetitive and preventing that is a big issue, yet in Far Cry Primal getting a bird fly over going ‘Squeek Squeek Squaaa’ and then attacking almost every 5 minutes gets to be tiring real fast (Far Cry 4 had that down the road as well). Such an event was also the case in Far Cry 4. Then there is the collection part, I like to get an almost complete set of achievements, having to empty loot boxes in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is nice in the beginning when you have nothing, but consider, if this is the Victoria age, would you really find a £50-£500 in almost every chest out and abounds? You gotta be kidding me, I think that there are around 25 per region and there are 13 districts? (I forgot how many there are) but it amounts to running to 300+ chests for the achievement. And lets not forget that this game was an improvement to AC Unity and the Guardian still gave it only 2/5. That is the behemoth that Ubisoft fights, that and to some extent massively shody testing (see Breakpoint for that).

Then we get: “The fact that 100 Parisians basically controlled their entire output for years in the first place seems like a poor move“, I completely disagree with that, Ubisoft has had great achievements (AC2, AC Brotherhood, Far Cry 3, AC Origins, For Honor, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell Blacklist), for the most decent games, if only that pesky part ‘testing’ was properly done and a testing division that can override the word of Ubisoft Marketing that would be nice too.

Then we get “Ubisoft games are pretty rubbish these days. You might think that a blanket statement like that needs qualifying. Honestly, their games are all so similar that it barely feels like I’m talking about multiple games. Over the past decade, they’ve managed to homogenize their entire catalog into the same murky paste” in the first they are not rubbish, but they are at times too much below average. then we get the one statement that is true as I see it “they’ve managed to homogenize their entire catalog into the same murky paste“, I believe it comes from a feeling that they imbued during one of their E3 events ‘This game will please everyone!‘, I believe that this expressed feeling is their greatest flaw. If you create a game that pleases all, you end up with a game that pleases no one. I believe that to be true. I can see the brilliance of For Honor, but I personally dislike multiplayer games and their single game campaign was lousy. So it is not a game for me, do I care? No, they had other franchises, and I did recognise the brilliance that For Honor delivered. They also reinvigorated the AC franchise with Origins (and then screwed it up with Odyssey, for me that is), yet Origins is a piece of brilliance and the differences to the previous AC line makes you want to play the game. also the first game in 4K was overwhelming too.

This is a stage we recognise and to see other games become the ‘same murky paste’ is to some degree true when we see Far Cry, Ghost Recon and the Division as one (they are not) but they have too much of each other and that gives a consideration to a larger degree (especially when you have all these franchises). a Franchise needs to distinguish itself from all others, not hand out to each other. That is perhaps the larger flaw at Ubisoft, iteration never goes anywhere, it merely holds you in place.

Personally I agree with “While we’re at it maybe follow Sony’s lead and do a game without any online elements either“, although for the most many games allow for that, you do not need to play AC online (unless you want 100% achievements), in Black Flag I never needed the online element, but for the blue chests it was essential, I had mixed feelings but not one of pure negativity. However, having strangers jump into my game of Watchdogs 2 and screwing up my stealth part by shooting all the cops in the neighbourhood is something I could have done without.

I am not certain whether shaking their editorial team fixes things, As I stated, it is the testing that is a larger problem and even as we accept that the editorial team will come up with the story and adjusts the programmers perception, the issue of repetition needs to be adjusted as well, I believe that too many fans have complained about those parts in the past, as such I hope Ubisoft listens. We see Watchdogs:Legion and what we got to see is a huge step in another direction, yet that is optionally not a bad thing, I merely hope that it gets properly tested and in the second part, I hope that Marketing does not push it before it is ready, a hype on a flawed game is a lot worse then an early hype on a delayed game for all the right reasons. CD Project RED showed us that part.

If Ubisoft does go under, it is by embracing the flaws they had and not taking a larger effort in fixing things, when we consider that the AC III, AC Black Flag, AC Unity, and AC Syndicate have certain issues that repeated over the games (like the AI, the control glitches you face and the repetitiveness) all whilst there was no real fix until AC Origin, we see a much larger failing and I have always stated that it was on the desk of Yves Guillemot (that is why he gets the big bucks).

And AC is only one of a few franchises that had issues. And for a gamer I have the weirdest mindset, when I see a 60% game that could have been an easy 80%+ game by fixing the issues I feel sad, because if I saw it, the bigger wigs at Ubisoft saw it too and they did not speak out when they could. It was a sad state of affairs!

So as such, Ubisoft might be in a predicament, yet I had some issues with the CCN article and I just could not resist taking it into a corner and bashing it a little.

A National Brand

Today’s story comes from LinkedIn of all places perhaps that is not quite correct, the story got a foothold there; it is His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum that gave the story the light it deserved. His call to form a team, 7 from each emirate, 49 in total and that gives us light to a part most of us did not ever consider, the UAE, the United Arab Emirates is indeed truly a union, a unions between 7 Emirates, each with its own flag.

Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain, each with its flag, its capital and all united under the UAE with its capital Abu Dhabi. Four of its voices are less than 5%, Umm al-Quwain (0.8%), Fujairah (1.6%), Ajman (3.9%) and Ras al-Khamain (4.3%), these 4 represent less than 20% of the UAE population (10.6%) yet they will be fully represented and the UAE went as far as local, global and social media to spread this word for a gathering towards a national brand.

It is interesting to see such a wide announcement to make proclamation towards an idea that will take months to fulfil. We are so used to social media being a vat for dishing out information that such a call is a nice change of pace.

I hope that this gets all the attention by national subjects on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and so on, because it seems like a worthy cause to give out such recognition in the end to 49 artists, an assignment to ‘to design the UAE’s new nation brand logo, before the end of this year‘, something that is usually in the hands of a chosen few, a chosen group of people high in the ranks of some government or corporate side.

And it was equally nice to see the usage for social networking being used in this way, it is not often, it is actually way to little that we see a request like that from any government to its citizens far and wide, perhaps that was the part that hit me first, a global stage created for a national product from its citizens. I for one hope that this will be the start of something beautiful, not for me, even though I would prosper in finding out how knowledge in this way would push boundaries.

I would love to see the connections and the creation that the UAE called for, to see what the nationalistic intentions are towards created artwork, towards arts propelled in such a way, I reckon that the creations that this call made, even though it would be on a national floor could get a global exposure, optionally propelling the artists aiming to the national floor on a global floor. In my purview for no other reason than to see the mindset of someone connected to the arts and a national frame of mind.

I personally am as curious as can be to see the results of such a call. There is a pride, a nationalist pride in anyone who is working abroad, it does not matter whether you took up another nation to fly your wings, a career in another place or merely a student that is out of once nation, the bulk of them will remain proud towards their station of origin. It is different with refugees at times, but they too will have a personalised setting towards the place they come from. You can ask any Armenian outside of Armenia (well you can ask nearly anyone), a lot of them will always keep the flag of their original country high in mind and soul.
